Neil Perry is speaking publicly about the circumstances surrounding his departure from The Band Perry. In a social media statement posted August 11, Perry said he was terminated from the group in June 2024 after opposing plans for his sister Kimberly Perry’s husband, Johnny Costello, to join the band. He also claimed he lost his financial interest and access to resources connected to the group.
In a follow-up account, Perry described discussions about the band’s future after communication among the siblings had become strained. He said several lineup options were considered, including continuing as a duo or finding another member, before plans changed.
The Band Perry, originally formed by siblings Kimberly, Reid and Neil Perry, went on hiatus in 2023. The group returned in 2025 with Kimberly, Reid and Costello. Reid later left to focus on artist management, leaving Kimberly and Costello as the current lineup.
Neil has since launched a new music project, WOLVESofJUNE, turning his attention toward new material following his departure.
