According to a recent exchange that played out publicly, a disagreement between Elon Musk and Ryanair turned into a brief but visible social media feud.
The situation began after Ryanair confirmed it had decided not to install Starlink Wi-Fi on its aircraft. The airline said the added cost and fuel use from satellite equipment did not align with its short-haul business model. In response, Musk criticized the decision on X, posting comments aimed at Ryanair chief executive Michael O’Leary and suggesting, jokingly, that he could buy the airline.
O’Leary dismissed the idea, noting that European Union ownership rules would prevent such a takeover. He also said Ryanair’s decision on onboard internet was based on cost efficiency, not personal disputes.
The exchange drew attention online but did not change Ryanair’s position. The airline said it remains open to reviewing new technology if it fits its operational needs.
