Committee recommends Rapid City deer plan

A Rapid City committee is recommending a big boost to the annual urban deer harvest.

The Public Works Committee is recommending the City Council authorize the killing of 250 deer in city limits, up from 150 last year. Parks and Recreation Director Jeff Biegler says the recommended increase is based on a jump in deer numbers. If approved by the City Council, certified shooters hired by the city will start targeting deer in early January. Shooters stick to wooded areas on city property, greenways and private property where they’ve been granted access. The deer meat goes to charity.
