Rapid City school board adopts controversial policy revision

The Rapid City School Board has narrowly approved a controversial policy on gender identity inclusion for Western Dakota Tech. Parents and others packed a meeting Monday night where the board voted 4-3 to adopt a revised harassment and discrimination policy to include transgender and gender nonconforming people. The policy change faced opposition with one woman from the group South Dakota Parents Involved in Education saying the revision conflicts with her personal values. Supporter Natalie Slack said any policy that promotes inclusion or acceptance over judgment and hate is a good policy.
