An attempted murder plot involving a local doctor was disrupted by Rapid City police following a tip. William Thoman, 62 of Rapid City, is accused of plotting to kill Dr. Behnan Mustafa Sahin, a hematologist at Rapid City Regional Hospital who treated Thoman’s wife. Katherine Thoman passed away in August after a battle with cancer. Her husband reportedly believes the doctor didn’t treat his wife correctly. Thoman made his initial appearance Wednesday on a charge of attempted first degree murder and criminal solicitation. His bond was set at $500,000. According to court documents, police say Thoman reached out to an old real estate colleague in Rapid City; at first asking for help in making someone go away. He also asked for a handgun. That colleague then contacted police and told them that Thoman wanted to “be up close and personal” with the doctor when the doctor realized he was going to die. Monday, police surrounded Thoman’s home and took him into custody.
