The incident began around 9:30 a.m. when Box Elder police were on a call in a neighborhood off of South Ellsworth Drive. Littrell reportedly shot at the police and they returned fire in what was described as a “gunfight,” according to Capt. Tony Harrison of the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office Littrell was able to run away but Box Elder police were able to keep him contained in an area that had two to four homes. He got into a backyard and briefly took two people hostage. One was able to escape right away and the other person got free a while later. When Littrell got into a home, the area was cordoned off and the special response team was called in. The standoff continued until about the noon hour when Littrell was arrested.
