Emergency crews recovered a body discovered off of Highway 244, near Mount Rushmore. The man’s body was found about 11:20 a.m. Friday morning by hikers. The person has been identified but his name is being withheld pending notification of his family. An autopsy was being conducted. The Pennington County Search and Rescue team had to scale a cliff just behind the monument to reach the body. Helping in the effort were the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office and National Park Service rangers. Since the body was on federal property, the FBI has taken over the investigation.
