Over 400,000 enter Sturgis during 78th Motorcycle Rally

The 78th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally concluded yesterday and the Department of Transportation estimates over 400,000 vehicles entered Sturgis throughout the rally. While the final numbers will be released today, officials say Sturgis traffic was about 6 percent higher than during the same period in 2017. Meanwhile the South Dakota Highway Patrol reports they issued about 1000 fewer citations through early Sunday than last year and responded to about 20 fewer accidents including 13 fewer injury accidents. 4 fatal accidents were reported which is down from 8 in 2017. The patrol also reported 12 fewer DUI arrests but 35 more drug arrests 31 of which were felony arrests.
